- This 1981 landmark film featured one of the first urban warriors. "Escape From New York" quickly gained cult-status and became one of Kurt Russell's most recognized and popular films. It also proved that John Carpenter could produce intriguing movies outside of the horror genre. Stylish, edgy and suspensful, Carpenter's look of a post-apocalyptic Manhattan which is now a heavy fortified walled-in prison was a juicy idea. And, when the President's plane crashes in Manhattan, there is only one man capable of rescuing him -- Snake Plissken (Russell), a former Special Forces war hero. Of course, there is a catch. He must complete the mission in 24 hours or an explosive devise placed in his neck by his chief nemesis (Lee Van Cleef) will kill him.

Naturally, Snake up to the challenge and he goes in. The battle scared Manhattan streets are controlled by rival gangs that scourge, loot and pillage every inch of the island. The prisoners are in charged and that makes for some brutal encounters! An all-star cast also includes Ernest Borgnine, Season Hubley, Harry Dean Stanton and Issac Hayes.

The 2-disc special edition includes a high definition transfer and Dolby surround sound, deleted scenes including an original opening, a behind the scenes featurette, two feature audio commentaries, liner notes by Carpenter, an exclusive comic book and much, much more. This cult classic will thrill action adventure fans!
