SUSPENDED ANIMATION
First Run Features DVD

- This odd ball thriller about an amination director who stumbles into the secluded cabin of two cannibalistic sisters while on an ice fishing vaction is a minor production with only one recognizable actor -- Alex MacArthur whose best known as the cute guy in Madonna's "Papa Don't Preach" video. MacArthur's character survives and becomes obsesses with find out everything he can about the two sisters and eventually he becomes involved with the daughter of one of his tormentors. Simplistic and unsophiscated, the drama touches on herediatory criminal behavior, deviate sexuality and crazy lonely women but films like "Misery" and "The Bad Seed" did a better job. The features trumpets director ___ but there is little insight into the conception of the film or the cast choices.

UNCOVERED
Artisan Home Entertainment

- Kate Beckinsale ("Underworld" and "Van Helsing") is currently cinema's leading action heroine so it's nice to see her in a contemporary drama with a bit of mystery. In this drama set in modern day Spain, she plays an art restorer who stumbles upon a mystery when she's asked to work on an art treasure that's been hidden for over 500 years in a private collection. The painting of a a wealthy patron, his young wife and a French prince reveals that a possible murder took place centuries ago but while Julia's (Beckinsale) interest is pecked, she is also tangled in the contemporary lives of her friends and client. Julia must face an old love, a new one and the foibles of modern romance, greed and revenge. It's not hard to guess who is behind all of the trouble and this tale does go one a bit too long, but it is a pleasure to watch Beckinsale as a young, fetching lass prancing around the Spanish streets. She's supported by a fine cast that includes John Wood, Sinead Cusack and Art Malak. This is a light drama for a rainy afternoon. Unofrtunately, the disc doesn't have an audio commentary by director or cast. There is only the usual upcoming trailers.
