Veronica Mixon
Based onDirector Michael Mann has done a marvelous
job recreating the turbulent atmosphere of America
during the Sixties in the film, ALI. You
see, despite the tense political era today, it
is hard to relate the incredible turbulence
But,
this is Will Smith's film and Michael Mann's vision.
I think Ali's anger, which reflects the general
Black anger of the time, is right on the mark,
Mann, best known for the gangster cult films,
Thief and Heat, the first Lector
film, Manhunter and the American romantic
adventure, The Last of the Mohicans, tends
to cast his eye on men who represent uniquely
American icons that people face impossible odds.
ALI isn't a perfect film but it's an excellent
first look at a man who thrilled some people and
pissed others off.
