It’s always heart-warming when
ambitious filmmakers manage to get their
movies made and get some attention from
audiences and the press. Keith Black,
a 34-year-old math teacher from Sheepshead
Bay High School on Long Island, is one
such guy and his funny short film called
Get the Script to Woody
Allen is worth the trip
to the theater. It opened at this year's
Long Island Film Festival and played
for one week at the Laemmie's Sunset
5 in Los Angeles in August. So, be on
the look out for it at various film
festivals.
In Script,
Keith plays a young screenwriter who
is desperate to get his script to Woody
Allen, his film hero. His gentle persuasion
is met with swift refusals but he’s
determined to succeed. Keith puts the
same effort when he’s on a blind
date and wants to impress his date.
Unfortunately, his date (Dena Ferriera),
has forgotten why she accepted his date
and she wants to skate as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, Keith insists that she stay
for an entire meal because he has it
covered – he has a coupon! Only
a neurotic guy, who is obviously on
a budget, would try to feed a woman
he’s trying to impress with the
assistance of discount coupons. Nevertheless,
Keith is a sweet guy. And, he gets lucky.
After being dumped, Keith who is a rather
brave guy meets the perfect woman (Georgette
Malone).
Get the Script to Woody
Allen does remind fans
of Allen’s early comic films and
persona as a rather determined lothario
whose persistence got him the girl.
However, while Allen was pretty randy,
Black’s character is so shy, he’d
rather not use his tongue while kissing
for the first time. Tracy Esposito also
gives a hyspterical turn as a harried
waitress. Get the Script
to Woody Allen provides
clever, witty dialog that's hilarious
and appealing. This reviewer can imagine
Mr. Black completing a full-length feature
that would be very entertaining. Good
luck Keith Black!
