A snappy suspense thriller with dynamic performers by two young, up-and-coming performers Rachel McAdams and Cillian Murphy make this woman in jeopardy film a must see! Red Eye, whose initial trailer made the film look like a horror film, doesn’t disappoint because it tapes into the current anxiety that movie audiences have about terrorism, airline security check points and vanishing travel comfort and the nature of evil. When Lisa Reisert (Rachel McAdams), a hotel business executive experienced with solving problems of agitated guests, finds herself seated next to a charming man, initially she thinks herself lucky. Jackson Rippner (Murphy) quickly darken his big blue eyes and warm smile into a deadly sneer when he informs Lisa that unless she jeopardize the security of the Homeland Security chief who is due to arrive at her hotel, her father’s life will be sniffed out. Stunned, Lisa finds herself trapped in a window seat, mid-air with a terrorist calling the shots. The film is a clever cat-and-mouse game with some daring dashes of startling violence meted out by Cillian Murphy, who recently appeared as a nemesis of Batman in Batman Begins. But, true to the genre, Rachel McAdams’s Lisa is a capable young woman who rises to the occasion in this tense, claustrophobic drama. McAdams, who was a favorite from the summer hit comedy, Wedding Crashers, is superb. It’s no surprise that Wes Craven, director of Nightmare of Elm Street produces a wonderful edge-of-your-seat thriller. He’s a master at scaring audiences in so-called safe familiar places like your own home or a routine airplane flight traveling back home. Furthermore, this is an intriguing way to challenge women characters and allow them to be smart, aggressive and independent. Red
Eye is a by-the-book thriller that entertains and engages
the viewer’s imagination. It’s one of the few summer movies
that delivers the goods! |
