Red Carpet Diaries: Confessions of
a Glamour Boy is the perfect summer
read! It's chatty, a bit catty and very amusing.
You can read it in one sitting -- as I did --
while lounging on the beach, on a swing in the
shade of a big tree or quiet front porch. Steven
Cojocaru, the flamboyant fashion columnist from
People magazine and quick-witted commentor
on the red carpet of E! TV with Joan
Rivers, is a funny delightful guy who is charming
viewers with his once a week appear on NBC's Today
Show. Steven is the adorable brother or cousin
you have who is a bit "sweet." He loves
talking about clothes, hair and makeup, and movie
stars. And, he's not afraid to admit it!
Red Carpet Diaries
is personal memoir about a nice Jewish boy with
immigrant parents. He grew up in Montreal and
made it big in Hollywood as fashion writer must
to the surprise of the everyone. He name drops
in bold print and despite his catty comments,
he gives credit to friends who generously supported
him, to his parents and to stars (like Tom Hanks
and Rita Wilson) who were kind and respect during
red carpet interviews. This is a funny, informative
blueprint for ambitious, young future fashion
enthusiasts. Steven Cojocaru is a big fan of anyone
famous who likes to look good. His starp tongue
got him noticed by the network executives and
stars like Jerry Seinfeld.
It would have been nice if he'd included some
info on his personal relationships. Gay lifestyle
is so popular right now and an honest rendering
of working, hustling and succeeding in the tough
showbiz world while dealing with gays as well
as straights would have been nice. He manages
to reveal how he weathered his adolesence as his
flamboyant dressing erupted and made him stand
out. So, some adult adventures would have been
nice. But Steven wants to be liked too much to
dare risk offending any past lovers or friends.
Nevertheless, Red Carpet Diaries is
an amusing book.
