Veteran actor Morgan Freeman tackles
one of his most challenging roles in
his latest film, Bruce Almighty.
Freeman, who played the President of
the United States in Deep Impact,
a charismatic pimp in Street Smart
and a love-sick hit man in Nurse
Betty, portrays God in human form
opposite funny man Jim Carrey and Jennifer
Aniston.
In Bruce Almighty,
Carrey plays Bruce Nolan, a disgruntled
television reporter who ridicules and
rages against God after a particularly
difficult day - and God responds. God
(Freeman) gives Bruce his divine powers
and challenges him to do the big job
to see if he can do it better.
Morgan Freeman's career spans more
than 20 years with a variety of characters
but playing God left the actor speechless.
He humbly shies away from discussing
his character in detail preferring to
let the audience realize the magnitude
of the role. However, ask him about
working with Jim Carrey and he has nothing
but praise.
"Jim is an amazing and conscientious
actor and I enjoyed working with him,
" says Freeman. "He did whatever
it took to make the scene funny."
He winning critic acclaim - a Golden
Goble and Academy Award nomination for
Street Smart in 1987, Freeman
cemented his career with extraordinary
performance as the aging companion to
a Southern matron in Driving Miss
Daisy. Some of his other fine performances
can be seen in the Civil War
drama Glory, in Walter
Hill's crime thriller Johnny Handsome
and opposite Michael Keaton
in Clean and Sober. He made
his directorial debut with Bopha!
starring Danny Glover and Alfre Woodard
in 1993.
Recently, Freeman appeared in the Alex
Cross crime thrillers Kiss the Girls
and Along Came A Spider, the
Tom Clancy thriller, The Sum of
All Fears and Stephen King's Dreamcatcher.
He'll next star in The Bounce,
a thriller based on the Elmore Leonard
novel.
